Video Description

When you think of secret codes, you probably think of James Bond or the Cold War... but soon you might also think of quantum physics. That's because scientists have developed a system of coding called "Quantum Key Distribution" that allows the code keys to be sent via photons. When sent this way, it is impossible for an adversary to intercept the key without tipping off the intended recipient, thus making it a powerful and secure new way to send codes. Bank accounts, credit cards, and all other sorts of personal information may one day be stored within photons.

Andrew,

Nice video! You explained in a very simple and dynamic fashion what QKD is, and the animations were clear and to the point. Good luck in the contest!

Marc

P.S. If you have a chance to take a look at my trilogy of videos entitled "This Is Physics" --- where I try to convey the "fun of physics" by focusing on some of the greatest moments of its history --- it would be quite appreciated! I think many of the participants in this contest have not yet realized that a video needs to get at least 10 community ratings to even get a chance to be considered for the final round... so it is vital when voting to use the video creator code that FQXi sent us, so that our votes get counted in the community category.

Looks like we need to help each other out contestants!!! I have given your video a community vote!!! Please can you do the same for mine???http://fqxi.org/community/forum/topic/2136

It is called "convection? Heat transfer? Who cares?"....

I hope that I can rely on you reciprocating the favour!!! Good luck!!

This was enjoyable and informative..

Thanks for sharing this Andrew and Kamna. It was well thought out, well-produced, and it communicated your message well. You do spell out the basics of QKD so that anyone could understand. I wish you luck in the contest, and I hope you can get to see my video as well.

Regards,

Jonathan
