Science has contributed enormously to the destruction of Nature. Science must assume its responsibility for this, and turn itself to mitigating and reversing this damage, at least to such extent as Scientists hope to save any remnants of this civilization. Scientists must accept responsibility for the uses of their science.
An Essay Fitting the Requirements of this Competition In the Form of a Poem
- Edited
Hi, I liked it because you have created in poetry a philosophical analysis of how we approach the sciences and how we utilise it in our society and its environments with some very good universall messages. The humans globally are too much for me in competition and the global economical have divided instead to unite, The economy and the lack of consciousness destroy many things like the ecology or others, we believe it is like this even and we accept a kind of normality. We have evolved of course in technology and we have improved the quality of life but it seems not sufficient considering our potential. The problem is maybe simply the bad habits due to our past and its adaptation. After all the sciences could be different simply if we just understand this universalism and altruism better and this complementarity for the common well and not only for humans but all lifes of this earth. I have created the forum global collaboration here on FQXi, you are welcome if you want to share some ideas , congrats for your essay original and deep about this universal responsability . Regards
how to read this ? it is there a puzzle in between lines at different pages
should i read out loud ?
the question is intriguing , when is the best time for archeologists to study a dead civilization
if the answer take in to account life extension technologies
are there scientific/ philosophical/ social questions considering an extended timeline in to the far future
short pause .
after a search for fat is (misstype),what is truth?
truth is a sea of possibilities
is truth something (a question?) that doesn't change after applying reason [a cell in an environment]
given an object ..what..interior structure ?
the ear looks like a good candidate answer
however look at a taub[de] pidgeon[en] , the ears are hidden , only an eye appear at distance
.all the pauses are not shown

Charles St Pierre this essay mention money
idea of value from a communication standpoint it is a issue.
that i think has a lot of potential for debate/discussion , also with physics not just with social implication
counting consecutive inline verses looks like a way to read not considering pages
1-4 2-8 3-7 4-8 5-5 6-7 7-2 8-6 9-1 10-2 11 ...
or considering pages 111 (4,1,3,7,4,6,6,7,3,5,2)212(8,6 ,6,14..)310(8,..) 49(4..) 512(5,...)6 11 (1,..)711 (3,26,9,2,8,4,5,1,2,4|2)
am i on the right track to catch the rithm ?
cristi marcovici Don't know. If there's any secret there, it being input, say, from my unconscious mind/body. As may be.
These are desperate times, but no one even seems to notice what's going on behind the theater. Everyone is pretending everything is OK, and they've surrounded themselves with their own little worlds so they can pretend nothing is happening. And science, everyone seems to be peering into their little instruments, totally oblivious to the larger context happening around them. Human society is managing to make (by repute) lemmings, ostriches and slime mold look clever and wise., Look at climate scientists. It's like none of them seem to take even the time to look at phenomena in the optically thin layer over their heads.
If we look at the ice age record, the heat budget of the planet is negative over the course of glacial periods. The earth radiates heat. But the heat budget is positive in inter-glacial periods. The earth absorbs heat. Could a change in atmospheric dynamics be associated with the transition?
cristi marcovici The truth is, if you're finding yourself at the bottom of a hole, digging yourself an ever deeper hole, it's usually a good idea to first stop digging.
Thanks for reading my essay. I hope you at least found it- different from many of the others.

You look critical concerning space exploration , mars settlement etc, this should be supported in all ways possible in my opinion .
to an other extreme , An idea i haven't found it here anywhere on this competition is in the area of chemical pollution , maybe not exactly this term . This mean something that is produced by people that is, more or less obvious, not good for the environment . The less obvious - in a movie , happening, plants evolved a toxic reaction . Considering the newly human made variety and abundance of substances present in the environment , not necessarily living , there is a small probability of certain chemical reactions not wanted , unexpected , even with known inert, substances . Take for example plastic degrading in the sun or rain water flowing over a concrete staircase or a little paint removed from a metallic surface

cristi marcovici What? You haven't heard about the Bugaplypse? The man made mostly chemically induced 6th Extinction.!? Which humanity sitting at the APEX? Yes. Has caused? Humanity and his civilization float free, high above the ability of nature and his environment to support his- Future. That- Wylie E. Coyote moment, as us Techno-nerds back in the day were so thrilled to repeatedly witness. Back in the day.
There is no possible benefit to further space exploration. The Economics- the costs, are simply impossible. The Physics. The Physics of the possible economy, can return no real economic benefit. It is expensive entertainment we can no longer afford. And anyways, civilization is going to have to be more adaptable than a slime mold to survive. With, hopefully, a lot of us.
A sustainable agriculture is required for a sustainable industry. And industrial agriculture has been fueled to cripple sustainable agriculture. (JBTW, The US has been pursuing policies which depress the price of oil, because, you know: "4 by 4's." The joke is that it is the rural productive regions which are being wrecked by the suppressed price of oil. )
You imagine a cheap energy future. In a high cost of energy future, the high tech high infrastructure renewable energy technology we have put in place now, may not be sustainable. Right now, renewable energy is still being subsidized by way away under priced fossil fuels. Neither has it reached a steady-state of infrastructure replacement rates.
Is the energy return on renewable energy resources sufficient to maintain not only those sources, but all the infrastructure for all the inputs necessary to do so?
Nobody knows.
Nobody's run the numbers.
Or have they? And aren't saying.
But I think not. Not today's technology. Nor today's "civilization."
JBTW: Has Elon Musk run shown the numbers on his Mars Colony.? Obviously a matter of interest to scientists. Or not, apparently.
Wow, That's one hell of a poem. So dark! It brought to mind Leonard Cohen's song 'You want it darker'. quote:....'Vilified, crucified
In the human frame
A million candles burning
For the help that never came
You want it darker
Your poem is a wake up call for humanity. Science needs to embrace 'The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly'
Let's hope we try and aembace a more caring and more optimistic future. Yes, Science needs to be different!

Science- Scientists- have to admit and embrace their own ugly, because the ugly they are laying on the world is- lethal. JBTW: The truth is not always emotionally attractive. Repressed emotions merely make this- avoidance of unpleasant realities- unpleasant necessities- unpleasant duties- Unconscious.
Thanks for reading, EcruZebra.

"Profit.
Those masters Science now serves
Know only profit
And more and more
It is Profit at the expense
And harm
to others
It is Profit at the expense
And harm
To Nature
It is Profit at the expense
"
But it can turn as inventing a low cost gun which spread equality and democraty between peoples.
