  • What are Foundational Questions? David Sloan in conversation with Pinar Emirdag

David Sloan (FQxI’s Chief Scientific Officer) and Pinar Emirdag (FQxI Board Member) talk about the kinds of questions that don’t get answered in textbooks — the ones where even experts don’t agree. What is time, really? Why does math describe the universe so well? Where do our current theories stop making sense?

"The curiosity driven research of today will be the technology of tomorrow"–David Sloan

Re “the technology of tomorrow”, and long term payoffs for research:

But is the world fully monetizable by human beings?

I.e. is “integrated” matter (particles, atoms, molecules and living things) able to be fully controlled by other integrated matter (human beings) who are using their knowledge of the consequences of the laws of nature?

Or does integrated matter have at least some “internal control”, i.e. knowledge/ consciousness of its own numbers (that apply to categories like relative position), and have the ability to jump some of its own numbers?

I’m guessing that there are limits to monetizable research because ultimately, integrated matter has a level of control over itself.
