Lorraine Ford Hi Lorraine,
It is well said, and I generally agree about the equations that cannot fly. Measurement gives us symbolic representations, and equations describe relationships , but not what is. That is why we need interacting physical systems.
Equations and symbolic relationships help us understand dynamics, but they do not themselves allow objects to have dynamics within space and environments. Our universe and its mechanisms require physical structures in order to produce motion and change in time and space. Mathematical structures are inert by themselves. That is why, although I appreciate Tegmark’s idea of the Mathematical Universe, I feel it lacks this essential structural and physical dimension. Both mathematics and physicality are linked and necessary ,not one without the other. We need causal physical processes.
So indeed, consciousness cannot arise from equations alone; it needs physical organization, self-reference, adaptation, and motion. In other words, we need a realization of mathematical logic within matter. The quantum 3D spheres, if they truly exist, could provide this link with a 0D infinite and eternal consciousness. These 3D spheres do not merely symbolize possibilities , they enable dynamics, motion, and evolution. They embody both knowledge and movement, expressing not only informational but also philosophical and experiential aspects of consciousness within physicality, much like our own personal consciousness.
Abstraction alone cannot answer this; we need physical quantum systems and informational structures. Consciousness cannot arise purely from equations or wave-function collapse ,and here I respectfully differ from Penrose and Hameroff, even though I deeply admire their work. I have studied many of Penrose’s papers and find his ideas highly relevant, yet in my view, he overlooks the possible 0D origin ,the Spinoza God and the necessity for deeper physical structures beyond our current logic.
It seems that we require specific internal physical organizations. It is not about microtubules or wave-function collapse, but about the fact that all is conscious and alive, expressing consciousness and life through distinct physical structures. Consciousness does not come from the brain , rather, the brain uses it intelligently. That is a crucial difference.
So, what you said, Lorraine, is important: mathematics gives form, but physical structures give viable existence. In my theory, the structured dynamics ,the 3D spheres are the key to both consciousness and life.
How quantum is life?
Quite simply: all is alive and conscious. The structures, through their complexity and diversity, express life and consciousness in unique ways. Everything is singular in the complexity of its physical organization.
