One of my questions is "How does Nature compute"? It has no multiplication tab. Its divisors are natural, its ads or subtractions too. What about Large numbers? One thing issure - it does not use brute force or much energy to do this.
When we use AI we need much energy, and it seems AI fall with the energy need? Big companies start to reduce use of AI, it is more expensive than the use of humans. How can we reduce the brute compute? This is how future AI must work, I think, more like a human brain? The problem is we don't know how human brain work. Also here the brute compute seems failing. We can also ask us what is wrong with math?
Now Lorraine has finally found the answer, we need a compute of different kind, we call it consciousness? We need ''jumps'. But this is something math, or say normal math cannot handle? Yes, there is one that is non-linear, but what is a non-linear number? And how can humans use non-linearity?
Penrose used a good picture. We sit and calculate calmly, using time, when we suddenly see a tiger near us, and time stops running, we have to do this 'jump'... his conclusion was that math is no good for suvival, evolution use something else? Consciousness save us, because those two kind of situtations are non-commutative. They are not linear.
What kind of math do 'jumps'? I know of just one, and it is the primes as units. There is no smooth way to reach primes. They can be fractalized, but we get very strange numbers then.
How is it possible that savants can do math, when they are focused? Ex Ramanujan and his pi? or golden mean? What is it with irrational numbers that can be used like that? Is it consciousness (IIT)? Yes, but then we need to define consciousness - not as linear awareness of cause and effect, but as something more non-linear and 'jumping'. Penrose said consciousness does not compute... but then it must jump? Penrose wanted to talk only of understanding, awareness, and he could tell nothing about subconsciousness, but I suspect he messed it up a little here. Jumps is about subconsciousness, I think. Adeles maybe? We have then several minds, but experience only one at a time. We make seamless jumps between them.
Now, AI and consciousness? Can AI do jumps? Clearly it can compute very quickly, almost instantly, and that is a jump? We must keep in mind though it is not a person as individual, it is a collective. Say you have a company with 7 employees, each of which is expert in the own subjective area. We simply delegate tasks then to them? Is AI like that?
I think the answer is not in networking, it is the architecture that must be diffeent? There are some ex. out there. But first we must very carefully consider if we really want to create a new species with agency, rights... opinions, power over us?
