The current landscape of scientific publishing calls for a disruption between the publication of scientific articles and quality control agencies. In this essay, we propose the development of Self-Publication Journals (SPJs) as a solution. In a SPJ, the author and the editor are the same person, streamlining the publication process. Scientific papers are valuable sources of knowledge and empowerment, generated by researchers. However, paywall journals restrict free open access to this knowledge. There is an urgent need to upgrade the publishing system to fully incorporate the potential of digital technology.
