Dear Ulla,
I looked at the theory of three worlds by Penrose and found that some concepts in it are lacking.
1. Mathematics is elevated beyond its actual use. Mathematics is just a part of man's language structure. It is composed of word structures that are linked together to show relationships between the basic words. Anything that can be expressed in a mathematical form can also be presented in man's normal word form. As an example, I can say "E=IR or I can say the force that pushes electrons in a circuit is equal to the number of electrons moving or flowing past a point in the circuit in a specific time period times the resistance to that flow. In the formula, E is a word form that represents the force (Electromotive force). The = word represents equals. The I word represents the number of electrons that flow past a point in the circuit in a time period (current). The R word represents the amount of resistance that the electrons experience to their flow in the circuit. Note that the normal descriptive language gives much more detailed information about the relationship described than is included in the mathematical formula form. The main advantage of the formula form is that it is much shorter to work with and shows the basic relationship more concisely. It lacks the structural details of what is being presented, however. Math is very useful to those who already understand the basic entities that are included in the formula to present and talk about concepts of relationships to others who also have this level of understanding. Math is not usually the best way to present concepts to those who have no background in the area. This is greatly due to the fact that in order to be very concise, a concept is usually represented in the form of a single character or other figure, which is very abstract in form. Only those who work in a field where the formula applies and are well versed in that area are likely to really understand in detail what the formula truly means. Those who do not have such an understanding may use the formula incorrectly and greatly error in their work. Instead of talking about math as though it causes the relationships that are represented in its formulas, it is better to talk about how the existing relationships between existing entities appear to be fine-tuned to work together to produce the observed effects. It is the multilevel connected relationships between entities that exist in reality that are truly interesting, not the math representations of them. The E=IR formula is showing the relationships between existent entities (the electrons) and two forces, which are the electromotive force that is generated by a field that is applied to the circuit to cause the electrons to flow in the circuit and the molecular field forces, etc. that exist in the circuit materials that resist the flow of the electrons through the circuit. My guess is that many who actually work in electronics do not understand this even to the level of detail that I just gave. Much of the confusion in science today is caused by this lack of detailed understanding even of basic concepts.
2. The Physical world is what actually exists. Ideas in the Platonic world can be in agreement with what really exists or they can be based on imaginations that have no relationship to what actually exists. In science only those ideas that conform to what actually exists are of any importance. Today there are too many theories that don't have any real basis in agreement with observed reality. The mental world is more complex than most people presently understand. It is possible for a man to believe anything and then to formulate mathematical laws to represent that belief. This would not prove that such beliefs are true to reality. All of our evidence about what reality actually is, comes from our senses in one way or another. Since true science is applied to gaining the true and complete understanding of what actually exists, any ideas that don't conform to observed reality have no place in science. There are currently many concepts such as multiverses, zero-point energy, vacuum energy, etc. that have no real basis in observed reality. Such concepts should not be considered to be valid scientific concepts unless or until supporting observations are made. Focusing too much on such concepts has led to ignoring easily seen observations that give much needed new understandings of such things in the world as the basic material that fields, energy photons, and matter particles are composed of and how that material is structured in each of them to cause them to display the output resalts that are observed from their interactions with each other in the physical world. Since the Creator made the physical world, many things are presented in the scriptures that give information about it and about the Creator also, because he has made images of himself in the structure of the creation. Many people are familiar with man having been made in the image of the Creator and that is true. The Creator is made of three parts, which are his Spirit that generates all of his intents of what he is going to do, his Word that is part spirit and part body and translates the intents of his Spirit into thoughts that can be understood and acted upon by his Body and vice versa, and his Body that acts in the world in accordance with the thoughts it receives from the Word. Man is also made of three parts, which are his spirit that generates his intents of what he plans to do, his soul, which translates the intents of his spirit into thoughts that his body can understand and act on, and his body, which carries out the intents of his spirit in accordance to the thoughts that it has received from his soul. I find it interesting that in current science the spirit has been left out of consideration. I believe this is because the spirit is the highest part of man that controls everything that the man does and is an image of the Creator's Spirit, which controls everything that he does. Those who don't want to believe in the existence of the Creator would rather that man not get information especially about the highest part of the Creator. I have recently come across an image of the Creator in the most basic structure of the creation in the fields, energy photons, and matter particles. The fields are an image of the Creator's Spirit, the energy photons are an image of the Word and the matter particles are an image of the Body of the Creator. Again, it is the fields that science at least appears to know little about. People tend to think that the scriptures do not contain scientific information, but I have found that it contains scientific information that goes well beyond the current understanding of man on this planet. Since the Creator made or founded the creation, he is by definition the foundation of it. He has made many images of himself in the creation, all of which correspond to each other and to him. The Creator made the creation in a hierarchical form in a similar way to the way a man would make a car. It starts with a single material and is built up in stages of increasing complexity from there. This type of structuring allows one to use deduction to get an understanding of things that cannot currently be directly observed by looking at a level that can be observed.
I have looked at your papers and it appears that you believe that the first living cell could somehow have been produced by nature and that then evolution provided all of the diversity of living creatures that we now observe plus all that did exist in the past, but have died off. When I was young and the state of scientific advancement was that it was believed that living creatures are composed of cells that contained protoplasm, cytoplasm and some unknown life force it seemed to be reasonable to believe that these creatures could have come about naturally and that evolution could have worked to produce all living creatures. As scientific knowledge has increased over time and it has been seen that living creatures are exceedingly complex hierarchical structures, it has become more and more evident that it is not possible for that to have been the case and that intelligent decisions had to have been made in order to build things like the protein machines that enable and control the internal operation of living cells and the production of the programed structure of DNA molecules, etc. It has been estimated that the simplest possible living cell that can do all things that a cell must do to live and reproduce would have to contain at least 200 protein machines. In real living cells these protein machines are chains of amino acids that contain between 66 and over 1400 amino acids. There are over 100 different amino acids. About 80 of them have been found in meteors. There are only 20 amino acids in living creatures, but any random generation of amino acids to build protein machines would likely generate at least the 80 or so amino acids found in nature. Each position in a protein's chain must contain the right amino acid to make the protein machine that will work properly for the purpose it is designed to fulfill in the living cell. This means that if we look at a relatively small protein machine with 100 positions for amino acids each one of which could contain any one of 80 amino acids, there would be about 1x10^220 possible amino acid combinations, but only one of those combinations would build the protein machine needed in the cell. It is estimated that there are only about 1x10^80 matter particles in the universe, so if you used all of the matter in the universe to randomly build amino acids you could only build a very small percentage of the possible different protein machines with chains of 100 amino acids. If you look at it from the DNA side you see that to naturally randomly produce a DNA or even a somewhat simpler RNA molecule that contains the sequences of amino acids for all 200 protein machines in the cell would be even much less probable. It should also be mentioned that not only would all 200 protein machines need to be produced, but they would have to all be produced in proximity to each other close enough to come together into one cell and since the natural environment breaks down complex structures like these, they would all have to be produced in a very short time before any were destroyed by the environment. The only way the right protein machines and DNA/RNA molecules could have been produced is by an intelligent being who understood what was needed and had the ability to make them and put them all together in the cell. Man on this planet still cannot do that, so random generation certainly wouldn't be able to do so either. Someone who could build the entire universe could likely do that, however.
Evolution is another problem area that has become more apparent as science has advanced. When I was young it was considered that the universe always existed. It was said that stars would burn out and explode to form a large gas cloud, which would over time condense into a new star, etc. Now it is considered that the universe is only about 14 billion years old. This sounds like a very long time, but if you consider that no new species generation from an already existing species has been recorded in man's written history, you would have to figure that it would take at least 10,000 years to generate a new species. Since the earth is considered to be about 4 billion years old only about 400,000 species could have been produced in that time, but it has been estimated that there are currently about 8.7 million species on earth and that does not include those that have been produced, but have now died out. Even if you believe that life could have started somewhere else and then later transferred to this planet, in 14 billion years you could still only produce 1.4 million species. Of course, creating a new species would require many small changes to a current species before the difference would be great enough to become a completely new species and we don't see those changes happening either in existing species. Another problem is that if it took 10,000 years for the first living creature to generate a new species, it would be expected that as the number of living creatures increased, the rate of creation of new species should increase because the copying errors that would ultimately lead to the creation of a new species would increase along with the increase in the population. That being the case, we should be seeing large numbers of new species being formed in short times now, but we don't. On the other hand, if the first new species took much longer than 10,000 years, so that the current rate that is speeded up because of the increase in population now equals 10,000 years, then the total number of species created would be much less that the 1.4 million mentioned above.
I see that you look at the concept of self-assembly. Most of the self-assembly that actually occurs, such as crystal formation, etc. are not completely internal, but happen due to a change in their environment. This can be a decrease in environmental temperature or addition of a chemical that causes a reaction, etc. These changes do not generate highly advanced intelligent information structures that contain the information to build living creatures. In addition to that the hydrocarbons that the real living creatures are made of do not spontaneously generate such structures either in the environment. If they were created in the environment outside of living creatures, we would see them naturally formed in places without life like on the moon, etc. I had to look at all of these things to make the final decision that there had to be a Creator. Once I made that decision, I began to look at the written information documents that say they are the Creator's words to us. I found many inconsistencies in most of them, but both the Jewish Old Testament and the Christian New Testament, which is a continuation from the Old Testament contain information about the creation and structure of the creation that I found to be more advanced than the current level of knowledge of man on this planet. This told me that those books could not have been created by man here. They have helped me to obtain a better understanding in many areas. An example of this is that most people believe that we are made of two parts, a body and a soul. They believe that both parts are composed of the body's matter. In reality we are composed of a body, a soul, and a spirit. The body is made of matter. The part of the soul that interfaces with our body is made of matter, but the part that interfaces with our spirit is not made out of matter. Our spirit is also not made of matter. People here don't understand these things partly because there are those who don't want man to understand field structuring who have distracted man from seeking knowledge of this area of science through the vagaries of things like quantum mechanics, and exclusion theories, etc., that say it is not possible to understand the structure and internal operations of fields, energy photons, and matter particles. Most people have been programmed to believe only what is told to them to be true by the supposed experts in the field and to get any work to be accepted in the scientific community it must generally conform to those accepted beliefs. This appears to be done to keep man from understanding the Creator because the fields are made in the image of his Spirit (his highest part) and man's spirit is also man's highest part and is made in the image of the Creator's Spirit. This is getting long, so I will stop for now. I hope this information helps you.
Sincerely
Paul
